Why choose quartz, laminate or granite countertops?
Granite is tough, other than diamonds it is one of the hardest naturally occurring materials. A granite worktop should last you a lifetime. They are extremely hard wearing and are not only chip and scratch resistant, but heat resistant too. So when you accidentally put a hot pan straight onto the granite countertop, it won’t be damaged in the same way other surfaces might.
Even though granite in the kitchen will boost the value of your home, it isn’t as expensive as you might think. Not only that, it will last a lot longer than most other work surfaces. To save money you can choose a granite overlay countertop. This is a thin overlay that can go over your old kitchen top to give you the appearance of a granite countertop. They won’t last as long as a full granite worktop though.
A quartz countertop is deemed by many as the most attractive looking work surface, with a wide variety of colors to choose from. Though it lacks the hardness of granite, it has a bit more give, which makes it very resistant to cracks and chips.
The durability of quartz, along with that deep richness to it’s finish make it a very appealing choice. It also doesn’t stain easily because it is nonporous. This also means it is more hygienic as is less likely to have trapped bacteria on it’s surface
Laminate countertops offer the widest variety of choice in terms of colors and patterns. They are also the best value for money option with those mindful of budget. Over time technology has allowed us to make even more durable laminate work surfaces. However, with laminate you still have the issues of scratching and heat resistance.
If you are budgeting then a laminate countertop gives you the most versatility in terms of appearance. On the downside, long term they don’t offer the same durability and quality feel that other work surfaces offer.
